Gbenga Daniel, Yayi and Jimoh Ibrahim win seats in the Senate

A former governor of Ogun, Gbenga Daniel, who participated in the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, was declared the winner of the Ogun East senatorial election held on Saturday.

Christopher Onwuka, INEC's Returning Officer for the Senate District, announced the results on Sunday at the collection center in Itoro Hall, Ijebu-Ode.

Mr. Onwuka said Daniel got 115,147 votes to defeat his nearest rival, Ajibola Kalejaiye of the PDP, who got 58,708 votes.

"I, Professor Christopher Onwuka, by the powers vested in me, as INEC Returning Officer for this election and having obtained the highest number of votes, hereby declare Gbenga Daniel of the APC who won the election," he said. (NAN)

In Ogun West district, APC's Solomon Adeola was declared the winner.

Oluseye Onabanjo, the INEC returning officer for the senatorial district, made the statement Sunday at Orona Hall in Ilaro.

Mr. Onabanjo said Adeola got a total of 112,887 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ganiyu Obanibasiri of the PDP, who got 60,189 votes.

"Solomon Adeola of the APC, having received the highest number of votes with 112,887 votes, is hereby declared the winner of the February 25 election for the Senate District of Ogun West," said Onabanjo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr. Adeola, who is the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, is currently representing the Senate District of Lagos West in the Senate.

Mr. Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, in an interview with Ilaro reporters, expressed satisfaction with the results, thanking God and his people for the overwhelming confidence they expressed through their votes.

“I would like to assure you that having toured the 59 wards in the district, I am aware of the development challenges my people face in infrastructure, energy, education and health.

"Even before the election, I began to deal with some of these challenges.

"I promise to continue on the same model in the days, weeks and months to come," he said.

Meanwhile, APC's Jimoh Ibrahim was declared the winner of the Ondo South District senatorial seat.

Mr. Ibrahim garnered 110,665 votes to beat a former deputy state governor, Agboola Ajayi of the PDP, who garnered 65,784 votes.
