George Kolasa, fashion communication veteran and cancer fighter, dies at 57

George Kolasa, a fashion industry insider who held senior positions in the communications and marketing at major designer brands, died Tuesday after an intentionally public battle with cancer.

Kolasa, 57, had been diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive form of brain cancer, in February 2022 He died at his home in East Hampton, New York. His death was revealed on his Instagram, where he chronicled his 18-month battle with what is considered an incurable disease.

During his 30-year career in the industry, Kolasa has been a consummate professional, quick and demanding, in honing marketing and public relations for brands such as Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Karl Lagerfeld and Giorgio Armani. He was always cheerful, funny and always impeccably dressed - naturally in the brand he worked for - without ever a misplaced hair or a wrinkle.

Established as Kolasa was in the industry, his true strength did not just emanate from the how he coped with his illness head-on, but through the steadfastness in detailing his medical odyssey via social media and other public avenues. In fact, Kolasa was perhaps even more of a touchstone among cancer patients, survivors, and their loved ones because of her openness to the fight against the rare disease. I have to believe it's God's will. And I'm on this new journey. And it was from that moment that I stayed in this place in my head. And I didn't cry. I haven't been, 'Why me?' I didn't blame anyone. It is just what it is."

Kolasa, whose father had died days before facing his own health crisis, has also detailed the importance of positivity in the podcast, which remains accessible. "We all have to ask ourselves, 'How do I want my story to go? Who do I want to go through this with? And I wanted to walk through that with grace and dignity and acceptance, to be an inspiration to others, and to use that as a way to help others. »
