Giving my birthday gifts to the less privileged — Oyebanji

Ekiti State Governor Mr Abiodun Oyebanji has urged friends, family, supporters and the general public to halt any plans they may have for his 55th birthday scheduled for 21 December.

Oyebanji, who said he would not want any birthday presents, newspaper advertisements, rallies or parties in commemoration of his birthday, said: "Instead of placing advertisements, or parties, anyone wishing to celebrate with me should make donations to the least privileged children in the state.”

The governor, in a statement by his special media adviser, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, on Saturday titled “No birthday celebration for me, says Governor Oyebanji,” specifically said that these plans should be converted into gifts and in support of schools for the physically handicapped in the state's three Senate districts.

They are; School for the Deaf, Ikoro-Ekiti; School for the Blind, Ikere-Ekiti; and School for the Mentally and Physically Handicapped, Ido-Ekiti.

He said, "The financial and material gifts sent to these schools by my friends and supporters will be a most appreciated birthday celebration for me. The country is at a point where citizens should make deliberate efforts to achieve the less privileged."
