A local council has stepped forward to return the late Glenda Jackson her highest honor.
Glenda Jackson, Oscar-winning actress and Labor MP for 23 years, died after a brief illness in June at the age of 87.
The star was born in Birkenhead and later moved to Hoylake as a child.
The Council of Wirral is now seeking to bestow the late actress with the title of Borough Liberty posthumously, the highest honor it can bestow.
A regulatory committee has unanimously recommended that the award be presented at a full council meeting on October 9.
That makes following the award given posthumously to the late Paul O'Grady. Other recipients include victims of the Hillsborough disaster and Baron Frank Field of Birkenhead.
