Gombe government proposes N173.6 billion budget for 2023

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has proposed a budget estimate of N173.6 billion for 2023.

Making the presentation to the state House of Assembly on Thursday, Yahaya said the budget, dubbed “Continued Consolidation,” would help the current administration achieve its goals and aspirations, particularly to ensure development.

He noted that although the 2023 budget marked the end of his first term, he expressed optimism that the next estimate of the 2024 fiscal document will be presented in 2023.

“Budget 2023, being the last of my first four-year term, comes at a time of great uncertainty and challenge, both locally and globally.”

“Since the COVID-19 pandemic, falling oil prices, economic recession and geopolitical conflicts around the world, we have, over the past three and a half years, weathered various storms to navigate safely. safety on the ship of our common destiny towards progress. As we prepare for very important national elections next year, I have no doubt that I will appear before this honorable Chamber next year - inshaaAllah - to present the 2024 budget,” Yahaya said.

Our correspondent reports that recurrent expenditure was allocated to N71.8 billion at 41.4% and N101.8 billion at 58.6%.

He said, "To continue to meet the development needs of the people of Gombe State in the financial year 2023, we have proposed a budget in the amount of N173,697,242,000.00 This consists of NGN 71,856,492,000.00 only for recurrent expenditure representing 41.4%, and NGN 101,840,750,000.00 only for capital expenditure representing 58.6% of the total budgeted sum. .

“We plan to generate the sum of 100.6 billion naira as recurring revenue, and the sum of 74.7 billion naira only as capital revenue. Our estimated closing balance for 2023 is expected to be N1,618.3 billion. »

The Governor added, “The aggregate fiscal performance stood at N92.7 billion as of September 30, 2022, which is 60% of the total budget size. Detailed sector performance is contained in the report on execution of the budget submitted with the 2023 budget proposal.”

Speaking, President Abubakar Luggerewo, while praising the Governor for ensuring the separation of powers, assured that the process would be expedited.

He said: "By laying this important financial document on the table, Your Excellency, you have indeed fulfilled a vital constitutional requirement, in accordance with the doctrine of the separation of powers. It is now the responsibility of the honorable chamber to fulfill its own part of the constitutional requirement to carefully consider your submission for subsequent passage into law.

"We wish to assure Your Excellency that by the grace of God, the Bill will receive diligent and expeditious legislative review and passage to enable you to pursue all commendable development policies and programs of your determined administration."
