Gombe State Police Commissioner Ishola Babaita has warned residents against political games around Sallah prayer and celebration sites, adding that the command will not accept acts likely to deteriorate the fragile peace.

Babaita made the revelation in a statement made available to our correspondent by the command's public relations officer, Mahid Abubakar.

According to him, the command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the lives and property of citizens by employing strong crime prevention measures before, during and after the celebration.

Babaita added that the officers and men of the Command would be on guard to rid the state of criminal elements, revealing that criminal hideouts would be looted.

He noted that joint inter-agency surveillance patrols will neutralize any likely threat to state peace and security and ensure enforcement of road traffic rules in Gombe Metropolis.

The statement adds in part: "There is a need to again call on state politicians to adhere to the INEC timeline regarding the timing of activities for the 2023 general election and avoid any form of campaigning political or gatherings in any form at Eid places of prayer.

"The Commissioner of Police will like to use this medium to warn all criminal minded individuals or groups to stay away from Gombe State, and further advise people to be aware of their safety personal information and to report any suspicious persons."

Meanwhile, Gombe State Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps NSCDC, Waziri Goni called at a press conference for peaceful co-existence during this period.

Goni said the command would not hesitate to deal with perpetrators of violence in the state, stressing that the command had prepared its men for a smooth celebration.

He said, "We have made all the preparations to make the Sallah very peaceful in the 11 local government areas of the state, NSCDC officers are ready."
