Gov Election 2023: Arise TV team under attack in Lagos

The Arise Television crew came under attack while covering the ongoing gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in the Elegushi Palace area, Lagos State.< /p>

According to broadcast journalist, Oseni Rufai, via his verified Twitter account on Saturday, the cameras and drone used for the coverage were seized and a correspondent was brutalized.

“Arise crew attacked in Elegushi. People are making threats and no one is arrested, but Arise TV crew was attacked and arrested in Ikate,” he tweeted.< /p>

“The cameraman suffered facial injuries as drones and equipment were seized,” Arise TV also said in information posted on its website.

Details of who attacked the crew were still sketchy at press time.

However, it was established that the team was at the police station and that the Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, had promised to take action.

Calls and text messages to state police public relations officer Benjamin Hundeyin for details of the incident had yet to be answered at the time of this report.< /p>

The PUNCH reports that harassment of journalists covering the elections is recurrent.

During the February 25 presidential and legislative elections, at least 14 journalists were assaulted, beaten or detained, according to a report by the Committee to Protect Journalists.

This also includes the attack on a PUNCHman in Rivers State by a Nigerian police team.
