Governor Ugwuanyi's interventions on infrastructure have facilitated our work – Nigerian Red Cross

The Nigerian Red Cross has commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for the remarkable interventions of his administration in providing road infrastructure, health facilities and efficient firefighting operations in the Enugu North Senatorial District and beyond, revealing that the amenities have helped the voluntary organization carry out its duties in the district perfectly.

Speaking when representatives of the Nsukka Division of the Nigerian Red Cross Society visited Governor Ugwuanyi at Government House, Enugu on Wednesday, the chairman of the organization, Engr. Pascal Chukwuemeka Asadu, applauded the Governor for “your gigantic developmental strides in the Enugu North Senatorial District in particular and in the state in general”.

Eng. Asadu pointed out that the impact of Governor Ugwuanyi's development trajectory in the Enugu North Senatorial District in terms of road construction, health care infrastructure, traffic lights, firefighting facilities, among others, contributed to the success of the organization in the area.

"As an emergency organization with one of its functions being to respond to accident scenes, we have seen a total reduction in the level of accidents in our area which can be attributed to quality roads which you (Ugwuanyi) have delivered during this period of your administration.

"We have responded to 90% of road accidents in Enugu North Senatorial District. We have, in conjunction with the fire department, responded to various fire scenes including that of Ogige Market in Nsukka. Our emergency team participated in search and rescue operations during heavy rains, among other interventions.

"While so much has been said in various quarters about how your administration's program has positively affected lives, the roads you have built have saved lives and made food available.

“Your Excellency, your health intervention by building state-of-the-art health centers in almost every local community in our area; the introduction of traffic lights has also reduced accidents among schoolchildren and relieved us as traffic officers”, Eng. Asadu said.

Applauding Governor Ugwuanyi for the efficiency and professionalism of the State Fire Service in responding to emergencies, the Chairman of the Nsukka Division of the Nigerian Red Cross, Engr. Asadu, thanked the Governor, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Senatorial District of Enugu North, for repositioning the sector despite meager state resources and the nation's economic challenges.

Expressing their confidence in Governor Ugwuanyi, the President added, "Your Excellency, in the current situation, we believe in you; we believed in you yesterday; we believe in you today and we we will continue to believe in you.

"As the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Nsukka Division, we are apolitical, but we must stand on something that will help us. We have come to do it for you, Your Excellency.

"Your first and second terms as governors have been good for us. Among the people you see here, we have doctors, we have engineers and other professionals."

The PDP candidate for the federal constituency of Nsukka/Igbo-Eze Sud, Chief Engr. Vita Abba graced the event.
