LaLiga condemns Atletico Madrid fans' racist abuse of Vinicius

LaLiga has condemned the racist abuse of Vinicius Junior by Atletico Madrid fans ahead of Sunday's derby at the Civitas Metropolitano.

Real Madrid won the game 2-1 thanks to goals from Rodrygo and Federico Valverde, with Mario Hermoso's late effort nothing more than a consolation.

This allowed Madrid to top the international standings with six wins from as many games, but the game was marred by the actions of some Atletico fans.

A large group was filmed singing racist chants about Vinicius just outside the stadium before the game. The Brazilian had attracted much of the pre-match attention following Spanish football agent Pedro Bravo telling him to 'stop playing monkey' on TV show El Chiringuito in relation to his tendency to dance when celebrating a goal.

Bravo apologized and insisted he meant no offense.

During Sunday's match, racist chanting was also reported inside the stadium, although the vile pre-match scenes were already front and center thanks to widespread sharing of videos on social media.

In a widely circulated statement, a La Liga spokesperson said: "We denounce all incidents inside and outside the stadiums. We work with the clubs to keep our football friendly and enjoyable .

"Hate speech has no place in La Liga and we are always working with clubs and the authorities to identify and bring to justice any such cases."

Atletico fans also threw objects on the pitch as Vinicius and Rodrygo danced while celebrating Madrid's first goal.
