Governor Uzodinma Presents N474.4 Billion Budget 2023 to IMO Assembly

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma presented a N474.4 billion budget for 2023 to the state legislature on Tuesday.

Introducing the budget titled "wealth expansion budget", Mr. Uzodinma said the purpose of the budget was to satisfy the desires of the residents of the state by providing them with lasting dividends from democracy and increasing their wealth.

The budget is an increase from the 2022 budget of N381 billion presented by the governor in December 2021.

The governor said a review of 2022 fiscal spending showed the budget facilitated "infrastructural transformations" and improvement in other sectors of the state's economy, adding that his administration had completed more than 100 rural and urban roads.

He said progress in executing the 2022 budget has pushed his administration “to further extend that progress” across the state by introducing the 2023 budget.

“Mr. Speaker, Members of the House, I now have the pleasure of laying before this honorable House the 2023 Budget Estimates of N474, 466, 276, 267,” Mr. Uzodinma said.

The governor said the budget provided for capital expenditure of N373.6 billion, or 78.8%, while N100.9 billion was earmarked for recurrent expenditure.

He expressed hope that the budget would place the well-being of the people at the center of governance through the massive reconstruction of dilapidated infrastructure in urban and rural areas.

He assured lawmakers of his "unwavering support and commitment" to the welfare of state residents, emphasizing that his administration would not permit any form of embezzlement of budgeted funds.
