The group deplores the continuing insecurity in the Southeast

One group, Anya-Ndi-Igbo, lamented the continuing security challenges in the southeastern region of Nigeria.

The group, which said it was the inalienable right of every Nigerian to have their life and property protected as it was the primary responsibility of government, noted that Nigerians are currently facing "the greatest threat to their lives and livelihoods".< /p>

Anya-Ndi-Igbo said so in a statement signed by his exco and board members and made available to reporters on Friday.

While condemning the existence of non-state actors in the region, the group urges the federal government to explore dialogue with all agitational groups as a way to understand what the issues were.

He also pleaded with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retired), to ensure that the region is safe for people to come out and vote in the 2023 general elections.

He further called on the governors of the Southeast to “make an extra effort to address the security challenges and make security the top priority of their administration in order to reverse the current bad trend.”< /p>

The group also called on "all sons and daughters of Alaigbo to think of creative and constructive ways to reverse the prevailing security, economic and political challenges in Alaigbo as a solemn duty."

The statement read in part: "In general, Nigerians of all walks of life face the greatest threat to their lives and livelihoods. The framers of our Nigerian Constitution from the 1999 constitution till to the latest amendment, have provided today. This explains their provision on the prime duty of government as the protection of lives and property. So it is the inalienable right and entitlement of every Nigerian to benefit from the prime duty of government protect lives and property.

"In recent years and particularly in the past three years, the breadth and depth of insecurity in the Southeast has become unbearable. Terrorist-style invasions accompanied by massacres and looting of entire communities, which are hard to counter by the federal and state governments, have become a common feature of the region.Other types of merchants of crime, violence and torture have joined in the rampage, creating hell on earth for the locals and travelers from the region.

"ANYI-NDI-IGBO condemns the devastation caused to Ndi-Igbo by the existence of non-state actors in the Southeast, in different forms, acronyms and for other reasons. Only organizations that exist in under the relevant laws and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should engage in law enforcement. The aim is to make Ala-Igbo safe not only for the NdiIgbo but also attractive for people of other regions of the country.

"ANYA-NDI-IGBO advises Governors in the Southeast to go the extra mile to address security challenges and make security their administration's top priority in order to reverse the current ugly trend. They should use all legitimate powers to stabilize and prevent their states from descending further into chaos and work with federal authorities to restore normalcy.

"We encourage the federal government to open its doors to engagement and dialogue with all advocacy groups to understand what the issues are and resolve real cases.

"We call on the Federal Government to put in place all relevant measures to ensure peace and protection for Nigerians when they go to the polls in 2023. Everyone must be on deck to ensure that the good things are being done. We call on commanders of the armed forces to collaborate with other state actors to work in synergy to maintain public order. An insecure nation is a threat to all. It affects our general well-being and frightens our financially strong diaspora community as well as genuine investors.”
