Elections Act 2022 is a game-changer in 2023 elections, says Banky W

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate, Olubankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has said that the Elections Act 2022 will be a game-changer in the 2023 elections.

p> Speaking at his campaign launch and Mega Fitness Walk at Lekki Phase One, Banky W noted that with the election law, it would not be easy to rig the election. Banky W, who is vying for a seat in the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency, said people now had the assurance and confidence that their votes would count, adding that it was very important to gain the trust of the people to win because the elections will be won or lost in the polling stations.

He said: "I'm very optimistic about winning the election, and for once the Elections Act has been a game-changer because the way the election was rigged really won't be effective anymore and now people have this reassurance and confidence that the votes actually matter. So once you have your people behind you, you have a better chance as this election will be won and lost with every specific unit of vote.

"That's why our goal is to engage the communities, let them know where we stand and work with them to get the seat at the end of the day. I think we have a great chance of winning this constituency. because people are excited about my candidacy I ran in 2019 on an independent party platform and for me 2019 was about planting the seed but 2023 is about winning the seat and we will win it with the support of our people." We have a strong legislative program which we have refined over the past few years. We are focusing on areas such as education and trying to bring technology to all the different neighborhoods of Eti-Osa to give young people a chance to have the kind of skills that make them relevant and capable of becoming entrepreneurs or employees in this century.

"There are things we want to focus on with health care. For example, it will shock people to know that we don't have a general hospital with all the internally generated revenue from this constituency So if someone gets sick in Sangotedo, they will have to go down to Lagos Island before getting treatment.

"So we will fight for things like health care, education and gender equality. I am excited about the plans we have for people because they are very good.

Banky W's Supreme Campaign Council Leader Adeniyi Adams has called his candidate salable, popular and smart.

"The odds are extremely high as things are changing and with the new election law it is going to be extremely difficult to rig people. That way they know their votes will count and they are all ready to support it.

“He (Banky W) has empathy for the people and he showed love to the people of this constituency not because he wants to run for office. He has done so for more than a year. decade. So you understand that people yearn for him because it's not about him anymore but about the change that people want,” he said.

Tolani Animashaun, managing director of administration and finance at campaign organization BankyW House of Reps, said that given the current situation in the country, candidates under the PDP have a chance of winning at all levels.

On the party crisis, she says. “PDP's house is in order. Forget what the media writes because they want to make a splash. What's off is different from what's inside.

"The ones you don't hear about are the ones you should be afraid of, so you need to go find out why you don't hear about them. We don't have any problems in our party."
