A car loaded with firearms intercepted at the gate of Osun court

A car carrying people and firearms was reportedly stopped at the entrance to the Osun State High Court premises on Wednesday.

The incident occurred as the July 16 Osun Governor Election Petition Court began sitting for the day.

Due to the court session, security guards were posted at the entrance to the premises to carry out checks on vehicles entering the compound.

An eyewitness, who preferred to remain anonymous, said the vehicle carrying the weapons was intercepted as it made its way to the venue.

Upon the intercept, he said officers at the gate immediately moved the car and occupants to the State Criminal Investigation Department at the Police Command Headquarters in Osogbo for further investigation.

When contacted, Osun Police Command spokesman Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident.

She explained, however, that the people in the vehicle were local hunters working with the police.

She said, "They are local security guards, hunters. They haven't attacked anyone. They are working with the police on security. There is no need for alarm.

>

"They were heading to another place before they were ordered to go to this place."
