As many as nine Tiv farmers from Gidan Sule community in Keana local government area of Nasarawa state were reportedly killed by gunmen believed to be herdsmen .

Our correspondent's investigation revealed that the sad incident happened on Saturday evening when gunmen armed with AK-47 rifles stormed the community, firing sporadically in the air and killing anyone in sight.

When the sporadic gunfire ended, nine people were believed to have been killed while others who escaped with gunshot wounds, including children, women and elderly parents, are currently reported missing.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent in Lafia on Monday, the chairman of the Tiv Development Association in the state, Peter Ahemba, said five bodies were first found on Sunday morning and later that day, four more bodies were recovered from a bush in the community.

While lamenting the persistent and unprovoked attacks on his relatives in recent times, Ahemba recalled how gunmen killed three people in Antsa village in Kwara, Local Government Area from Keana a few weeks ago.

He said: "After Saturday's attack on the Tiv in the village of Gidan Sule, where three people were allegedly killed by gunmen. I can confirm that on Sunday morning another six dead bodies were found in the bush and more bodies are yet to be discovered."

Reacting, the state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattlemen's Association of Nigeria, Bala Muhammed-Dabo, said he was unaware of the killing of any Tiv farmers by his tribesmen.

He said, “I don't know if a Tiv person was killed. I only heard that a Fulani man and a Fulani woman on their way to pasture were recently attacked and killed by armed men and both were buried according to Islamic rites.

"I have warned my people (the Fulani herdsmen) not to take the laws into their own hands because the government is above the situation, and I will not support anyone who is looking for trouble."

At the time of this report, efforts to reach Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ramhan Nansel proved futile as he was not responding to calls made on his mobile lines .
