Hold Me Closer: Britney Spears releases her first new music since 2016

Br itney Spears has released her first new music since being freed from a guardianship that controlled nearly every aspect of her life.

Hold Me Closer - a duet with Sir Elton John - hit streaming sites on Friday, marking Spears' return to music after a hiatus from six years old.

"It's really cool that I'm singing with one of the most classic men of our time", she said before the exit.

"I'm a bit overwhelmed...this is a big deal for me!"

The song incorporates three of Sir Elton's classic hits - Tiny Dancer, The One and Don't Go Breaking My Heart - set to a cool summer club beat.

Spears and Sir Elton sing in unison throughout the track with their echo drenched voices, this which makes it difficult to gauge how Spears' voice has changed since we last heard from her.

However, she loosens up with a few ad libs - including a "baby" mark halfway through the track - which suggests his voice has matured and deepened over the past six years. (An unsubstantiated fan theory claims this is Britney's natural reason...
