How the Chinese who killed their Nigerian girlfriend converted to Islam
A popular Kano-based Islamic cleric, Aminu Daurawa, has revealed how a Chinese man, Geng Quandong, who killed his Nigerian girlfriend, Ummulkulsum Buhari, converted to Islam to marry her, but the parents of the lady did not approve the union.< /p>
Mr. Daurawa, who was speaking at a religious gathering, said the late Ms Buhari, told her after Mr Quandong converted to Islam to marry her.
PREMIUM TIMES reported that Mr Quandong, 47, allegedly murdered Ummukulsum, 23, in Janbalu neighborhoods on September 17 for allegedly refusing her hand in marriage and exploiting him.
Police brought Mr Quandong to High Court No. 17 Miller Road in Kano Metropolis. He is charged with intentional homicide.
Mr. Daurawa said that a week before she was killed, Ms Buhari called on the phone to ask for her lawyer after Mr Quandong converted to Islam.
"Your parents said the right thing because you can't marry someone without knowing their background," he claimed to have told her.
Mr. Daurawa said he supported marriage but advised that certain things should be considered before marriage because Islam is against racism and tribalism.

“You need to contact immigration to find out if he is legally staying in Nigeria, the business he is in, involves the authentic Chinese community in Kano where he is from, his background is important,” added Mr. .Daurawa.
He said he also advised her to inform the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria of the planned marriage and to involve the board of Kano Hisbah to teach her to practice Islam.
>Mr. Daurawa said that once these steps are completed, he will meet with his parents to convince them to allow the marriage.
"It is unfortunate, a week later I learned that she had been killed, it is a very sad development, may her soul rest in peace", prayed the cleric.
>He urged the Nigerian authorities to ensure justice is served to deter others and prevent a repeat of this horrific incident.
