How Detective Whitman's Fate in 'Power Book II' Season 3 Connects to the Original Series

One more week, another major player in "Power Book II: Ghost" meets a tragic fate, though many viewers have probably seen this one coming. This time around, the hit spin-off "Power" has bid farewell to nuisance detective Kevin Whitman (Jeff Hephner) after he oversteps his bounds one too many times with Monet (Mary J. Blige). p>

Since the death of Monet's nephew son Zeke (Daniel Bellomy), Whitman has been on his trail trying to frame him for a murder he believes he committed, aka Carrie Milgram (who she committed for sleeping with Zeke). Note: Carrie and Whitman also have a history together. Whitman, an overly dedicated detective, has also worked with Federal Prosecutor Jenny Sullivan (Paton Ashbrook) and Detective Blanca Rodriguez (Monique Gabriela Curnen) to help their RICO case which could bring Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.), Brayden (Gianni Paolo) and the Tejadas – Cane (Woody McClain), Dru (Lovell Adams-Gray), Diana (LaToya Tonodeo) and Lorenzo (Berto Colon) – all locked up for their drug empire. But his latest pursuit was to bring down Monet with another charge (which happens to be true): the murder of Dante, aka Mecca (Daniel Sunjata).

Whitman approaches Monet in the fourth episode of season 3, which airs April 7, claiming to have footage of her going up to the Mecca penthouse the night of her murder (which occurred in the season finale 2). But without a proper warrant and a suspension for harassing Monet hanging over his head, Whitman resorts to a low scheme to team up with his daughter, Diana, to turn against Monet. However, it is the kingpin who will have the last laugh when Diana turns the script on Whitman, luring him into a trap that costs him his life.
