How Nigeria's Kegites Club Died An Unnatural Death

By Yomi Taiwo

ABOUT 23 years ago, the demonstration of high level loyalty, unyielding devotion, unmitigated morality, respect, commitment and a zealous inclination to serve prevailed in the supreme comradium. Today, the club has strayed from its original status and is now in an advanced stage of inglorious extinction due to the baffling exhaustion of the moral standard of quality, greed, avarice, gluttony, asking for money before a show of service, disrespect, power struggle, death of standard operating procedure, tampering with rule, twisting history, spreading fallacy and capsizing comradial ethics. It's sad that things aren't like they used to be. Looking back, our birth into the conradic family has included an array of meticulous service. The zeal, drive and willingness to serve were exceptional. This was not a reward or compensation, but an absolute orientation towards the ultimate respect of the rules and ethics to which we were bound.

Ilyasis, even far away in Ijebu Ode, Abeokuta Town and some other Chifis in Lagos, often beckons and dads' call should never go unanswered or conditionally constrained. Sadly, many Kutasis willingly ship to coronations and transformation for a display of cariability on personal cost, but blatantly demand motivation for any invitation to an Obeng. Where is the primary will to serve? Unfortunately, so many kutasis are not able to tell the difference between Obengs and Coronations. To kill the problem, ilyas now budget a separate fee to import the expertise of other ilyas to honor their land by leaving so many young fellow volunteers on set as quantity surveyors. It would be nice if these funds were used to sponsor entities to other ilyasis for brief acquaintance and further development of the main ilya. The twisted walls we've built are nearly collapsing on the entire supreme conradium political system as a whole.

Again, the proliferation of convergence, poor independence, insubordination, or weak desire to walk with the convergence of yesteryear has crippled the progress of many ilyasis. While we've enjoyed happy times pairing the "pomosis with the Agbangs," many young fellows fail to display their God-given abilities due to ungodly alienation. The big question remains, how many drumitos or songitos have you built or what legacy have you planted in your ilya with your presence or absence? Unfortunately, obengs have now moved on to convergences. Ilyasis could no longer maintain a fellowship but now relied on archives, mathusalems, patronsis, matronsis, senior fellowsis and fellowsis to survive during coronation or transformation. From there, whoever pays the Piper dictates the melody. The ultimate will of the main or sincere voice of the oracle of the ilya is compromised or permanently silenced. No wonder we now have chifiisis and half-baked comrades with a cursory knowledge of traditional club ethics imparting negative doctrines even to those who have yet to join the glorious club. Where did we go wrong?

Some professors have argued that developmental changes in the world are the catalyst for despicable changes as is the case in the supreme comradium. Some have argued that the past is over and it is necessary to usher in a new era. Others have said that the rules of old are out of place and that our history needs to be rewritten. This explains the case of a leader who put his staff and all other equipment in the possession of a comrade; abomination! Unfortunately, the forbidden fruit has diverted our minds from the comradi process of yesteryear. Where are we? Things fell apart. The vision, the purpose of our ancestral fathers who gave life to the club is now dead. We watch as the remains of the club faithfully descend into an eternal abyss. We watch as the fallacies, the heresies of the propagandists mutilate our culture. The dice are thrown and everything is collapsing now.

On countless occasions there were posters about the gyration of love. Here the Agbangs gather to drink wine, network and dine but where is the love? Those with eyes can see the trend of masked love as we say "unity in diversity". Did I here someone say dichotomy? I rest my case here.
