Husband Beats Wife to Death in Ogun

A 51-year-old man, Oluranti Badejo, allegedly beat his wife, Folashade Badejo, to death in Mowe, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State.

Ogun Police Spokesman SP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday.

According to Oyeyemi, the suspect was arrested after the matter was reported to Mowe Divisional Police Headquarters by a younger sister of the deceased wife.

The complainant had reported receiving information from her elder sister's daughter that the woman, who lived with her husband at 7 Madame Felicia Street, Orimerunmu in Mowe, "was beaten to death by her husband."

Acting on the report, Mowe Division DPD SP Folake Afeniforo reportedly quickly dispatched detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested.

"The lifeless body of the victim was there, then evacuated to the Shagamu morgue for post-mortem examination."

The preliminary investigation, DAILY POST has learned, revealed that "the suspect strangled the deceased during a scuffle following a minor disagreement".

Oyeyemi added that when the husband realized he had killed his wife, "he used hot iron to burn parts of the body of the deceased, so as to make it look like she had been electrocuted".

However, he said their eight-year-old daughter witnessed all of this; saying "this is the girl who testified to seeing her father strangle her deceased mother to death."

Meanwhile, State Police Commissioner Lanre Bankole had ordered that the suspect be taken to the state ICID Homicide Section for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
