IGP wraps up tour of duty, promises to improve officer welfare

Inspector General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba concluded a six-day tour of six northern states on Sunday and reiterated his commitment to improving the welfare of officers across the country.

During the tour, the police chief also commissioned state-of-the-art projects made by his administration.

Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi said in a statement on Sunday that the projects included modern police stations with barracks, renovation of vital police infrastructure such as police training schools , buildings for the sewing department and the music section, etc. .

The statement reads: "During project commissioning and community stakeholder engagement as part of a trust-building exercise, the IGP and his team traveled by road and conducted patrols from Abuja to Kaduna; Kaduna to Kano; Kano to Kazaure [Jigawa State]; Kazaure [Jigawa State] to Dandagoro [Katsina State]; Kano to Damaturu [Yobe State] [cross sections of Jigawa and Bauchi State]; Damaturu[ Yobe] to Benisheik [Borno State]; Benisheik to Maiduguri in Borno State.

"The Inspector General of Police, while assuring officers of his administration's commitment to anchoring lasting initiatives to protect lives and property in the country, noted that a similar road trip to order projects in the southern part of the country start in earnest.

"In the same vein, the IGP also reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to harness all means to improve Nigeria's internal security architecture through better conditions of service, modified standard operating procedures and strong human/community relations."
