IHR commends Saudi Arabia on early preparations for 2023 hajj

THE Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR), an organization that reports and monitors hajj operations in Nigeria, has welcomed the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah's decision to begin preparations for the 2023 hajj this month.

The commendation was contained in a statement signed by the group's national coordinator, Ibrahim Muhammed.

According to IHR, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj will hold a virtual meeting with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on December 21, while a similar meeting is scheduled for December 18 with the South African Hajj Council and Umrah to review the 2022 hajj and discuss the guidelines for the 2023 hajj.

The group said it was commendable that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia started early to reach out to countries participating in the hajj for a comprehensive hajj policy and guidelines for the upcoming hajj exercise.

He said, "This will create seamless synchronization of key procedures and enable hajj missions to resolve their issues that may prevent the delivery of proportionate services to our dear pilgrims.

"So far, Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah, has visited Indonesia, Uzbekistan and Egypt, where they have held talks ranging from hajj services diplomatic relations with these countries."

"Remarkable was the Minister's speech during his visit to Egypt on October 10, where he expressed his appreciation for the efforts and organizational measures taken each year by the Egyptian Ministry of Interior to organize, prepare and supervise the Egyptian Hajj Mission, as well as its aspiration to identify obstacles that Egyptian pilgrims may face during the Hajj season and any proposals to overcome them. It is a welcome development that the Minister of Hajj is aware of and ready to help countries participating in the hajj to overcome their particular challenges.

"While in Indonesia, Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah said that they had discussed a partnership between the Kingdom and Indonesia to create a better pilgrimage experience within the framework of the goals of Vision 2030 - which means the tour is for Hajj service and Umrah pilgrims.”

IHR said the early release of the 2023 hajj guidelines would help hajj missions around the world organize their operational plans towards a smooth exercise.
