Ijaw-Itsekiri football schedule unveiled at Delta

The schedule for the football competition between Ijaw and Itsekiri has been unveiled in Delta State. The contest marks the International Day for Tolerance, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of peace, justice and strong institutions.

The football tournament which aims to establish a harmonious relationship between the Ijaw and Itsekiri peoples, aims to create pathways for sustainable mutual coexistence among all Deltans through sports and will be held from November 16 to December 3, 2022. < /p>

The National Coordinator of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, unveiled the timetable at the Africa Center for Peace, CEPEJ headquarters, in Ugolo-Okpe, during the inauguration of the committee of the tournament.

He said the venues for the tournament would be in the communities of Benikrukru and Ugborodo, Warri South West, noting that the selection of venues was strategic as Benikrukru is an Ijaw community and Ugborodo an Itsekiri community.< /p>

According to the Ambassador for Peace and Environment, the contest was intended to foster and strengthen the existing peace enjoyed by the two ethnic groups after a period of disunity, crisis and disaffection.

He expressed hope that the contest would build trust between the Ijaw and Itsekiri people living in the Warri South, Warri North and Warri South West local government areas of the state.

Among those inaugurated to serve on the committee were the Hon. Kenneth Nwaomucha, President; Commodore Kingdom Itoko (retired), Secretary; Mr. Matthew Itsekure, PRO; Mr. Victor Tonlagha, Director of Finance; Omoboye Abosode, Director of Social Affairs; Mr. Azuka Chiemeka, Director of Media; Amb. Ville Ojouworo, Director of Mobilization; Hon. Raymond Pirah, director of security; and Dr. Jeffrey Wilikie, Asst. Director of Finance.

Others included Mr. Philemon Ugedi, Asst. director of security; Mr. Bright Tortor, Mobilization Manager, Benikrukru Community; Hon. Aboyewa Ikpoto, Transport and Logistics Manager; Hon. Bethus Ayotan, Asst. director of transportation and logistics; Mr. Wison Ejeh, Director of Mobilization, Ugborodo Community; and the Hon. Paul Kirifide, organization secretary.
