Peter Obi, the Labor Party (LP) presidential candidate, has promised to resurrect the Ajaokuta Steel Company if he is elected Nigeria's next president in the 2023 general election.

He said that he would bring prosperity to the three senatorial districts of Kogi, with the enormous resources naturally endowed by God.

Mr. Obi made the promise on Tuesday in Lokoja, during the LP's presidential rally in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi.

He expressed his optimism that a functioning Ajaokuta steel project would result in the employment of millions of unemployed youths with economic prosperity, among others.

“The steel industry is very important for the development of the economy, therefore, we will get in touch with professionals and experts who know what to do with the Ajaokuta steel company as soon as we are sworn in ", he said.

On security, Mr. Obi promised that his administration would protect the country from criminals, save it from collapse, and unite its citizens to return the country to a family known years ago.

According to him, the LP government will ensure that the rule of law and human rights are firmly entrenched in the country, a development where no one will be oppressed.

On worker welfare, the LP candidate promised Nigerians to work in synergy with state governments to settle their arrears of minimum wages and other emoluments to boost their morale and increase their productivity.

With regard to agriculture, the former governor of Anambra State described Kogi as a geopolitical entity capable of feeding itself, processing its endowed agricultural products for export to alleviate poverty and to propel the state to a high level of prosperity.

Mr. Obi reiterated his commitment to move Nigeria from consumption to production, if elected.

He urged the Kogi electorate to do the necessary and vote for the LP candidates at all levels, assuring them that they would collectively make Nigeria great.
