The opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Kebbi State, Aminu Bande, announced his campaign on Monday promising to handle security better than his main rival, the presidential candidate. ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasiru Idris.

Mr. Bande, a retired major general in the Nigerian army, claimed his rival was unable to secure the state because he was a lowly 2nd grade teacher.

Mr. Idris, a former National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), was elected as the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in May.

"How can you compare a retired major general with a second grade teacher? I have the ability through my training to work with the federal government to provide security in Kebbi State elected)
