The opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Kebbi State, Aminu Bande, announced his campaign on Monday promising to handle security better than his main rival, the presidential candidate. ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasiru Idris.
Mr. Bande, a retired major general in the Nigerian army, claimed his rival was unable to secure the state because he was a lowly 2nd grade teacher.
Mr. Idris, a former National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), was elected as the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in May.

“I will do my best to save the people of Kebbi State, all the candidates who have emerged under the PDP are committed people who are ready to serve the people,” Bande said.
The flag off ceremony was attended by a former state governor, Adamu Aleiro, and former Senate majority leader, Abdullahi Yahaya - both men are serving senators who defected from the APC to the PDP at the following the crisis that erupted in the state chapter of the APC.
In his remarks, former governor Mr Aleiro instructed voters to vote for PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar who he said has the initiative to tackle insecurity in Kebbi.
