I'm sorry, Brymo apologizes for Igbo presidency tweets

Singer Olawale BrymO has apologized for his tweets about the South East possibly producing a Nigerian president.

This comes after thousands of Nigerians signed a petition to stop the singer from winning the All Africa Music Award where he was nominated in the 'Songwriter of the Year' category.

The singer had been criticized for saying that the Igbos were not ready to produce a Nigerian president.

He also urged the region to test the waters with the post of vice president before aiming for the presidency.

He went live on his Instagram account Friday night to address the issue and clarify what led to his tweets.

Brymo said this problem started after he shared his opinion about author Chimamanda Adichie refusing national honors but accepting a chieftaincy title in his hometown, Abba, Anambra State.

He said: "It's very important for you to understand that this whole fracas started when I saw in the media that Chimamanda Adichie had turned down some national honors and won a traditional title in the East at home.

“And I suggested that to me that says a lot about the Igbo presidency because that actual seat is what the region should be aiming for right now. wouldn't believe it.

"This will come to mind when you hear that the Igbos don't really want the presidency.

"I didn't insult the tribe, I'm sorry to anyone who felt that way. I was trying to get in on a very important matter."
