INEC announces winners of National Assembly elections in Rivers

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers has released the winners of the National Assembly election that took place on February 25 in Rivers.

INEC announced the results in a statement by its public affairs officer, Geraldine Ekelemu, in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

The commission announced the winner of the Rivers South-East senatorial district as Mpigi Barinada of the PDP with 53,734 votes to defeat his closest rival from the APC, Ngofa Nyimenuate, who garnered 24,123 votes.

INEC said that the senatorial district of Rivers West was won by Banigo Harry of the PDP who obtained 67,668 votes to beat Asita Asita of APC who obtained 32,572 votes.

The commission also announced that Onyesoh Allwell of the PDP won the senatorial seat of Rivers East with 134,283 votes against Benjamin Okwuwolu of the LP who obtained 74,725 votes.

Similarly, INEC released the list of House of Representatives members of Okrika/Ogubuolo, Etche/Omuma, Ikwere/Emohua, Ahoada West/Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru , Eleme/Tai/Oyibo , Abua-Uduah/Ahoada Est, Andoni-Opobo/Nkuru, Degema/Bonny, Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt 1, while Port Harcourt 2 result remains suspended.

The results showed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) only won one seat in Okrika/Ogubuolo, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won nine seats and the Labor Party won only single seat for Port Harcourt 1 Federal Constituency.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Rivers has 12 members in the Green House of the National Assembly.

NAN recalls that INEC's Resident State Electoral Commissioner (REC), Johnson Alalibo, had previously told reporters that the Port Harcourt 2 Federal Constituency results would be suspended and reconsidered due to reports of irregularities.
