Ismail Omipidan, Chief Press Secretary to Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has advised the general public to disregard a video that has gone viral on social media claiming that the governor Oyetola was attacked in Osogbo during Eid prayers.

He said the circulating video was of an incident during the 2020 #EndSARS nationwide protest.

Omipidan, in a statement titled: “Osun PDP Agents Spreading Fake Videos,” obtained on Sunday, said its manager was not attacked at the Eid prayer ground.

He further noted that the broadcast of the video indicated that the People's Democratic Party was nervous about the impending defeat in the July 16 poll.

The statement reads in several parts: "This is to alert the residents of Osun and the general public to the circulation of a fake video of an alleged attack on Governor Adegboyega Oyetola's convoy on the Osogbo Eid prayer ground today (Saturday).

“The video is released by unscrupulous PDP agents sinking in Osun, in yet another demonstration of their political desperation. The PDP should know that there is no amount of lies and propaganda that can be winning his candidate in the next gubernatorial election.

"For the avoidance of doubt, said circulating video is of an incident during the 2020 #EndSARS nationwide protest. There was no attack on Governor Oyetola's convoy or anyone prior , during and after Eid prayers at the Osogbo prayer ground.”

But when contacted, Osun PDP media and publicity director Oladele Oluwabamiji said the party is not showing any fake videos about Oyetola.

He insisted, however, that the video remains a "sad reminder that Oyetola was never accepted as governor of the state. The video was not fabricated. The incident happened . We didn't distribute it so we shouldn't be linked to it. It's always been on the internet."
