INEC declares Tambuwal, Wamakko and other winners of NASS elections in Sokoto

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate the winner of Sokoto South Senatorial District.

Stating the supplementary election results, Sokoto South Senatorial District Returning Officer Abubakar Bagudo said Tambuwal scored 100,860 to defeat Ibrahim Danbaba, an All Progressive Congress (APC) senator who had obtained 95,884 votes with the others.

Mr. Bagudo said the election was contested by ADC's Muhammad Faruk; Abdullahi Danbaba, APC; Umar Rabiu, APGA and Umar Abubakar LP.

The others were Aliyu Sayyinna, NNPP; Hudu Sa'idu NRM; Aminu Tambuwal, PDP; Labbo Bala, SDP and Muhammad Bashir ZLP.

"Tambuwal having met the requirements of the law was declared the winner and re-elected," Bagudo said.

Meanwhile, Sokoto North Senatorial District Returning Officer Ibrahim Magawata had also elected Aliyu Wamakko, as the winner of Sokoto North Senatorial District.

Mr. Magawata said Mr. Wamakko, a former state governor and sitting senator, polled 141,448 votes to beat PDP candidate Muhammadu Dan'Iya, who received 118,445 votes.

“Magatakarda Aliyu Wamakko of the APC, having met the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the election and re-elected,” Mr. Magawata said.

Furthermore, the Returning Officer for Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency for the 2023 Supplementary Election, Abubakar Muhammad, elected Abdussamad Dasuki as the winner of the election.

Mr. Muhammad said Dasuki garnered 47,317 votes to beat APC candidate Bala Kokani, who won 34,282 votes with others.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the February 25 National Assembly elections in Sokoto State have been declared inconclusive and the INEC has set April 15 for supplementary elections.< /p>

INEC also declared Ibrahim Lamido of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the Sokoto East Senate seat.

INEC returning officer Muhammad Bayawa announced the result in Sokoto on Sunday.

Mr. Bayawa said Lamido got 112,764 votes to defeat Gwanda Shuaibu of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) who won 107,834 votes.

He said Abdullahi Dahiru of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) got 410 votes to come third.

Meanwhile, the APC also won eight of the 10 seats in the House of Representatives covered by the by-election.

In Gudu/Tangaza Federal Constituency, Prof. Muazu Shamaki, the returning officer declared APC's Alhaji Sani Yakubu the winner with 23,473 votes.
