INEC did not disqualify our candidates in Lagos – PDP

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) of Lagos State has denied reports that some of its candidates have been disqualified by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from contesting the 2023 general elections.

The party's publicity secretary in the state, Hakeem Amode, denied the reports in a statement Monday in Lagos and described them as "a figment of the imagination of the opposition".

“The PDP leadership in Lagos State woke up to the story that claimed INEC had disqualified 21 party candidates in the state, attributing the story to our leader, Chief Bode George, with the greatest embarrassment.

“The PDP in Lagos State would like to assure all of our candidates, members and supporters that there is no such thing and that the news is not true.

“We dare to say that such news is a figment of the imagination of the troublemakers, indicating that the PDP leadership is better prepared than ever to win the general elections in Lagos State and Nigeria. .

“We are ready to give Nigerians a new life better than what is currently being obtained. We cannot afford to leave room for the disqualification of party candidates,” he said.

The spokesperson maintained that INEC, in accordance with the electoral law, had published the list of candidates for the general elections of 2023 and that the candidates of the PDP for all the elective seats were included in the list.

Mr. Amode added that the information on the INEC website at the time of publication has not changed, so the story is false.

He warned that no one should stoke the embers of discord capable of demoralizing his hard-working candidates who put their all into the project of rescuing and overhauling the governance of our beloved state, Lagos.

Mr. Amode said that the PDP leadership is fully prepared to ensure that the wishes of ordinary citizens of the state are reflected in the results of the upcoming elections.

“We are making arrangements to support INEC in the posting of the voter register and the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) which is expected to start on November 12 by mobilizing voters.

“We urge all aggrieved party members to uphold democratic principles and follow due process in expressing their agitation and not to peddle information that could discredit the efforts of the party and its candidates” , did he declare.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that reports in some sections of the media indicate that 21 of the party's 40 House of Assembly candidates for the 2023 elections have reportedly been disqualified due to controversies stemming from its primaries.
