Insecurity: Governors of Zamfara and Plateau visit CDS and call for more troops in states
Chief of the Defense Staff (CDS), Christopher Musa, met with the governors of Zamfara and Plateau states on Wednesday to discuss the state of security in their respective states.
The Acting Director of Defense Information, Tukur Gusau, a Brigadier, made the revelation in a statement Wednesday in Abuja.
In his address, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara told CDS that security concerns have hampered meaningful development and made governance nearly impossible in the state.
Mr. Lawal said addressing the security challenges will go a long way towards addressing the development challenges of the state.
He commended the efforts of troops on the ground while calling for the deployment of more troops and logistics to enhance security.

The governor called for more funding for the armed forces, as well as concerted efforts and synergy between residents and security agencies to bolster peacemaking efforts in the state.< /p>
In his response, Mr. Musa, a Major General, said the Defense Headquarters would provide the state with all necessary security assistance.
The CDS added that it would ensure that troops were aware of the situation and would work in synergy with other security agencies.

Earlier Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau said Musa's appointment came at a critical time of worsening security problems in the country.
Mr. Muftwang, however, said he was confident that the CDS would have an immediate impact by leveraging its experience to address the security challenges in Plateau.
He praised the efforts of the military while paying tribute to those who died in defense of the country.
The governor called for more efforts to address the security situation in the state.
