It's time for governance, Makinde tells Tinubu

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, on Friday paid a courtesy visit to the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, at the House defense.

The development came two months after the former Governor of Lagos State, whom they both supported, was declared the winner of the presidential election.

Soon after their arrival, the duo had a closed meeting with the President-elect as well as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu ; his counterpart from Jigawa State, Abubakar Badaru, and former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi.

Speaking to reporters after their discussion, the two G-5 governors said they had come to pay their respects to Tinubu after his election victory.

They also called on Nigerians to look beyond the 2023 elections and throw their full weight behind Tinubu, who they believe could turn the country's fortunes around after the 29 May.

Makinde, who pledged his support for the incoming administration, said: "I have come to pay my respects to the elected president and tell him that the elections are over and it is time to govern. We will do our best to support it with good governance."

Wike also said, “The elections are over and a winner has emerged so all Nigerians must come together and give him (Tinubu) the necessary support. Everyone is waiting for May 29 to see the inauguration of the president-elect and he is rushing to make sure Nigerians get what they are waiting for. I trust he (Tinubu) has what it takes to transform Nigeria. I trust him."
