During filming, Ortega said she found not blinking "kind of boring", but eventually figured out that she could blink while other characters were saying their lines, keeping eyes wide open for his own.

In a November 28 tweet, Netflix itself explained how the non-flashing nature of Wednesday came about. "After trying a take where she didn't blink, Tim Burton was so in love with the result that he told Jenna Ortega to stop blinking when she performed on Wednesday," the streamer wrote. "So she didn't."

Characters who don't blink appear quite frequently in Burton's films. In an interview with Yahoo! in 2016, the director confirmed that he doesn't really like to blink. I don't know why," he said. "Even when you talk about it now, it freaks me out."

"Wednesday," which aired on November 16, gives its beloved protagonist psychic powers as well as a monstrous new adversary, while delivering significant Latinx representation in the process...
