The batter has had six Test centuries in 2022, four of which came in a home summer that saw England win six of their seven matches.

Nat Sciver won the Women's Cricket Award, while Kent's Jordan Cox was named Young Cricketer of the Year.

Hampshire's Keith Barker has won the County Championship Player of the Year award.

The Bob Willis Trophy was previously contested by the 18 first-class counties when national play was disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Bairstow, 33, is currently on probation away with a broken leg suffered in an accident while playing golf and won't return to action until the new year.

"It was one of those summers we will always remember," Bairstow said. "I remember the Ashes summer of 2005 very, very well, and I hope that we as a group of people have inspired the next generation - or even people who haven't played cricket who have tipped over and we entertained them."

Sciver, 30, scored a century in a losing effort as England were beaten by Australia in the World Cup final in April and followed that up with another ton in the draw against South Africa in June.

She chose to miss England's series against India in September to focus on her mental health.

"It's been a massive year," Sciver said. "This award means a lot to me."
