Josplay launches an African music database

An African music intelligence company, Josplay Inc, is launching a first-of-its-kind music database for African music.

Dubbed the African Music Library, the project is a digital database and knowledge base designed to provide the global music industry with the most accurate and comprehensive understanding of African music.

A company statement indicates that the ultimate goal of the library is to match global acceptance of African music with adequate data by properly documenting empirical and historical data on music made in Africa or by Africans in the Diaspora.

The library, according to the statement, lists information about artists, bands, record companies, their works and their making, including instruments and genres. Its repository of information ranges from music credits that document who did what on any piece of recorded music, to detailed audio analysis of those works.

“We envision a future where Africans are considered priority consumers of music, media and information in their local contexts,” Emmanuel Ogala, co-founder and CEO of Josplay, said in the statement.< /p>
