Consumer spending on video games, while still low compared to previous years, is close to where it was in July 2020. According to industry tracking firm The NPD Group, sales of materials are also increasing, perhaps due to increased supplies. In a major hit, Warner Bros.' free-to-play MultiVersus fighting game. surpassed both Elden Ring and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga as the best-selling game.

“In July 2022, consumer spending on video game hardware, content and accessories fell 9% from a year ago to $4.18 billion,” said said NDP analyst Mat Piscatella. "The total is slightly lower than the $4.19 billion generated in July 2020."

This is by no means a huge increase in numbers. The gaming market has been slowly declining over the past few months, with May 2022 having the lowest spending in the pandemic period. According to data provided by Sensor Tower, even the mobile market is in decline. However, the increase in console sales indicates that, at least for now, some of the supply chain issues have been ameliorated.
