Kaduna LP contestant denies rumors of working for APC

The Labor Party Governor candidate in Kaduna State, Hon. Jonathan Asake, has called "mischievous" the rumor circulating that he is working for the All Progressives Congress to win the next election in the state.

The gubernatorial candidate noted that there was no truth to the allegation that he was in the race to scuttle the People's Democratic Party's chances in the state.

Asake, who was a former National Chairman of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, added that his aspiration should not be taken as a mere joke, saying he was optimistic to be the next occupant of Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna.

A statement from gubernatorial candidate James Swam's media aide to Kaduna on Wednesday quoted his principal as saying this during his meeting with the SOKAPU political committee on Tuesday ahead of the 2023 poll.< /p>

Asake said that if elected governor, he would stand up for the people of the state with all his might, adding that he would lead an inclusive administration "where appointments, jobs and economic opportunities will be shared on the basis of equity and justice".

He added, "My aspiration to be governor is no joke. I am a serious contender for the throne. I want to be governor. When I become governor, I will stand up and defend the people of the State of all my strength.

"I've heard the strange rumor that I only want to block the PDP for the APC to win. But that's not true. If the PDP really believed the area was theirs, why didn't haven't they zoned the party gubernatorial ticket in the zone since 1999?

"Now that the LP has graciously zoned the governor's office in the southern senatorial zone, the PDP has suddenly become nervous and is spreading misinformation.

“But I am not discouraged by this misdeed. I am focused on victory and by the grace of God, I will become the next Governor of Kaduna State.”

The PUNCH reported that Asake said he had officially resigned to join the gubernatorial race to answer the clarion call of the majority of people to run for the seat of governor in 2023.

“What you have heard is now confirmed that I have heeded the clarion call of the people and wider people of Kaduna State to stand for election for the post of governor in 2023,” he said.
