In addition to having respect for Gumi and his team and extending the usual courtesies he extends to all clerics and men and women of God of all faiths throughout the country, as far as I can tell, there is absolutely nothing special or profound about Kashim Shettima's relationship with any of them.
The terrorist suspect, Tukur Mamu, is a close aide and confidant of Sheikh Ahmad Gumi. He is part of his entourage and probably the closest person to him.
He and Gumi are associates of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Waziri Adamawa and presidential candidate of the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP).
This is a well-known and common knowledge fact.
I say they are close to Atiku Abubakar NOT because they have taken pictures with him over the years.
Anyone can take pictures with anyone else and ALONE does NOT necessarily mean they're involved in an evil plot or one of them has any idea of the thoughts, intentions, plans, sinister movements or criminal and terrorist tendencies and activities of the other.
You can be in a photo with a man or a woman and not know if he is planning to poison you or bomb you or conspire to rob you and deprive you of everything that is yours.
It's common sense and basic logic.
As Shakespeare wrote, "there is no art that knows the construction of the spirit in the face".
Only God knows what those who smile at us, take pictures with us or visit our homes are really thinking and what they are planning.
Only God sees what is in their hearts. You can't hold one man guilty of another man's crimes just because they appeared in a photo together.
And to hold them both guilty of a crime that only one of them committed is not only unfair and unreasonable, but also a clear example of pronouncing guilt by association.
If you want to establish a strong criminal connection between two people, you will need more than just a photo of them together.
I submit that Atiku Abubakar, on the one hand, and Ahmad Gumi and Tukur Mamu, on the other hand, are close NOT just because they took pictures together, but because they traveled together in all over the country in private or chartered jets, and there is clearly a strong bond of affection, understanding and trust between them.
I say they are close to Atiku Abubakar because they supported him and campaigned for him in the 2019 presidential election with every fiber of their being and they support him, lobbying and campaigning for him again for the 2023 presidential election.< /p>
