Katsina police repel attack by terrorists and kill one

Terrorists on Monday morning attacked a police 'bite point' in Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State, during which one of the terrorists was killed.

Two police officers who were injured in the encounter have been treated and discharged.

Spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the development.

He said the incident happened around 4:30 a.m. at Magama/Hirji junction along Katsina/Jibia Road.

According to him, the terrorists had stormed Police Nipping Point in large numbers, adding that the bravery and professionalism of Nipping Point officers prompted them to repel the attack and killed a member of the terrorist gang during of the encounter. .

Isah added that many terrorists fled the scene with gunshot wounds.

He also revealed that police recovered an AK 47 rifle, cash and other exhibits from the scene.

He said: "At around 4:30 a.m., large numbers of terrorists, sporadically firing AK 47 rifles, attacked a police station at the Magama - Hirji junction along the Jibia - Katsina road. The police engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun duel and successfully repelled them.

“One of the terrorists was neutralized and an AK 47 rifle was recovered with four magazines containing 90 rounds of 7.62 mm AK 47 rifles. Cash and other parts were also recovered. Many terrorists escaped from the scene with gunshot wounds.

"Two police officers were injured during the encounter. They were taken to Jibia Hospital, treated and discharged. Search teams are still combing the area in an effort to arrest or recover other bodies on the terrorists. The investigation is ongoing."
