Officers from the Katsina State Police Command on Saturday night rescued Ibrahim Tafashiya, a candidate for the Kankia Assembly of the People's Democratic Party in the 2023 general election, from the hands of terrorists.

Terrorists had earlier in the night kidnapped Tafashiya in the Kankia local government area of ​​the state.

Police were alerted to the abduction, prompting Kankia Divisional Police Officer Superintendent Ilyasu Ibrahim and his team to block the terrorists' escape route and engage them in a duel at the gun from which Tafashiya was rescued.

Command spokesman SP Gambo Isah confirmed the development on Sunday.

"It is true that our team saved Tafashiya from the terrorists and he was reunited with his family," Isah added.

It has also been learned that terrorists stormed the residence of the Registrar of Isa Kaita College of Education, Salisu Gide, located in Kankia, and abducted him and his wife.

Police were also able to rescue Gide that night, as efforts continued Sunday morning to rescue his wife and other victims abducted by the terrorists.

The police spokesperson revealed that the terrorists were sighted somewhere around the Batsari local government area of ​​the state.

Meanwhile, terrorists reportedly struck early Sunday morning in Sabuwar Kwata in the Jibiya local government area of ​​the state and abducted a man and two children.

The incident allegedly happened a few minutes after five o'clock in the morning.
