Kingpin escapes as troops kill 16 Zamfara bandits

As many as 16 bandits were killed when airstrikes by Operation Hadarin Daji Air Component targeted their enclave along Kaura Namoda Road in Zurmi Local Government Area in Zamfara State.

Furthermore, during the operation, a wanted terrorist leader, Gwoska Dankarami, is said to have narrowly escaped death.

According to an army report seen by our correspondent on Sunday, Dankarami escaped with injuries during the operation carried out on New Year's Eve.

The military report cites a source familiar with the terrorist leader's modus operandi as confirming hearing the terrorist lament the military's determination to eliminate him and his family.

The report read: "It was also heard that he had complained bitterly about the New Year's Eve airstrikes, which lasted for several hours, killing more than 16 of his cronies and also destroying his newly built house.like its enclave.

"According to the source, Dankarami also expressed deep concern over the dire situation he has been in since it became clear that the military is determined to eliminate him at all costs. ."

When contacted, NAF spokesman Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet confirmed the airstrikes while noting that Dankarami and his ilk remain people of interest in the NAF and all security agencies because of the evil they have perpetrated.

"Air Chief of Staff Air Marshal Oladayo Amao's directive that there is no hiding place for all terrorists and their supporters, wherever they are, remain active even as we go through the new year,” he added.
