The Nigerian Correctional Service has recaptured 421 inmates who fled the custodial facility in Kuje, Abuja, and 454 are still at large, according to the House of Representatives Committee on Corrections.

This is exactly what the committee said they summoned Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola; and NCoS Comptroller General Haliru Nababa to appear before him regarding the recent attack on Kuje Detention Center by terrorists.

The committee also invited the Nigerian army platoon commander on duty the night of the attack.

Corrections Committee Chairman Edwin Anayo, who revealed it during a monitoring visit to the facility on Thursday, said lawmakers met with 115 inmates.

"If you subtract that, it'll be about 879 who escaped that night," he noted.

Detainees, including 69 suspected Boko Haram members, had escaped from Kuje Medium Detention Center on Tuesday last week after members of the Islamic Province for West Africa attacked the facility .

Anayo lamented that 12 other detention centers were recently attacked across the country. He said recent escapes by armed men leading to the release of detainees are disturbing.

Anayo said, “We are summoning the CG and the minister in charge of this agency to come to the National Assembly and explain to the whole world and to Nigerians what is happening.

"We are not comfortable with the implications of jailbreaks lately. There have been around 10-12 attacks on detention centers. Nigerians are not comfortable.

"In Abuja, no one is walking freely anymore because of this incident. We need to interact and know the problem, and how we can solve it.

"We need to know your challenges and how to meet them. The committee is eager to hear what happened here. The reaction of the security agencies.

"After inviting the CG with his team and the minister, we will also invite the head of the army team that day.

"We summon the CG with his team, and the Minister with his team to find out more about what happened on that fateful day when the incident occurred."
