Men from the Ogun State Police Command rescued kidnapping victim Sheu Anafi and arrested suspected kidnapper Ibraheem Abubakar around the end of the Kara Bridge from the Lagos-Ibadan highway.

State Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Oyeyemi revealed this in a statement on Sunday.

Oyeyemi said the arrest was made on Saturday after his men stormed the suspect's hideout and rescued the victim, who was one of the passengers whose vehicle was attacked by a mob of kidnappers.

He said: "Command's men took the battle to the thugs' gates following a report filed at Warewa Division Headquarters by a commercial driver.

“The driver reported coming from Ilorin in his Ford commercial car loaded with seven passengers; on arriving at the Longbridge there was a traffic jam, as a result of which he crossed the unpaved access road next to the bridge.

"While crossing said access road, they were attacked by unknown gunmen, causing all the passengers to run in different directions into the nearby bush.

"But when they all regrouped to continue their journey, it was discovered that one of the passengers, Alhaji Sheu Anafi, from the Okeleele area of ​​Ilorin, had been abducted by the thugs.

"On the report, DPO, Warewa, CSP Abdul-Fatai Ogunsanya, conducted a joint operation consisting of men from the command's tactical teams, local vigilantes, So-Safe Corps and men of the OPC, for combing the bush in search of the kidnapped man.

"Their efforts yielded positive results when the kidnappers' hideout was located and security guards engaged them in a shootout.

"At the end of the meeting, one of the kidnappers, Ibraheem Abubakar, who claimed to have come from Sabonganmu-Bompai Road, Kano State, was arrested, while other others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds. , and the victim, 62-year-old Sheu Anafi, was rescued unharmed.

"The suspect confessed to being a member of a seven-man gang that has been terrorizing the Longbridge stretch lately."

Oyeyemi noted that Police Commissioner Lanre Bankole ordered the suspect's immediate transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a quiet investigation.

He said: "CP has also called on members of the public, especially hospitals, to notify police if anyone with gunshot wounds is seen in their area."
