Host Laura Whitmore is arguably best known for appearing on shows with a "mellow facade", like Love Island and Celebrity Juice, but his next TV series couldn't be more different.

It started as a documentary idea about incels - young men describing themselves as "involuntarily celibate" , who hold misogynistic beliefs, with some launching violent attacks.

But that quickly turned into two more episodes about rough sex and cyberbullying.

"Although I've worked on things that might have a soft facade, I've always dealt with grim situations - we all do that in life," she tells the BBC.

His goal was for the series to explore topics that are "really important and I think are worthwhile".

The result was ITV's Laura Whitmore Investigates. We see her flexing her editorial muscles, having earned a journalism degree early in her career.

ITV Factual Programs Controller Jo Clinton Davis , said the series' problems "particularly resemble 21st-century threats emerging or compounded by our online world."
