Live Rocket Studios takes a leap to NYFW

READY AND WAITING: The end of July may seem extremely premature to anticipate the next edition of New York Fashion Week, but Live Rocket Studios is already recording some of the shows and activations it will be hosting.

The 23,000 square foot facility on Fulton Street at The Seaport has attracted some notable designers by offering them a location for free. This could represent a savings of $15,000 to $25,000 for each business, considering the costs of renting space in Manhattan. However, designers hired by Live Rocket Studios will still be expected to cover all production costs, after-party expenses, and other show-related investments.

Indifferent to the expense of providing a free NYFW location to select designers, Live Rocket Studios Founder and CEO Mark Bozek said, "We don't care right now, because we're building a great company and brand that wants live events to be part of what we do not only with live streaming and live commerce, but also with live events."

Maxwell Osborne's Public School will launch its latest collection on September 9, Sammy B Black will be on stage on September 12, and Theophilio's Edvin Thompson has secured an event on September 14. Some will be doing parades and others will be doing vignette-like presentations in the two-level space that has an all-black interior and was once an Abercrombie & Fitch store.

Live Rocket Studios will unveil Soho Muse, a new designer showcase, on September 7. A Terry Singh pop-up shop is also on her September 13-15 record. Participating creators have been contacted individually by Live Rocket. Studios, which gives them the space to use at no cost, according to Bozek

Asked how this plays into NYFW's decentralization, Bozek said, "With all the designers now wanting to show pretty much all over the city in the five different boroughs, it ultimately wouldn't be great if we could create a storyline in a place that has access to the subway and all those amenities and hospitality? Everything is great here at the Seaport. It's a real opportunity. It can be a real part of Live Rocket's future – be that destination to kick things off," he said. "...if we create these live experiences, then those live experiences can turn into live streaming experiences where you can actually generate revenue and sell the goods even if you are a season ahead."

Singularly the soon-to-open Tin Building by Jean-Georges, a 5,000 square meter culinary marketplace with multiple restaurants, outposts and fast-casual bars that is orchestrated by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, pointed out Bozek how the neighborhood is transforming into a destination for concerts, food and more. Last week, Alexander Wang secured a 15-year lease for 46,000 square feet of space in the Fulton Market building for a new global headquarters and showroom.

A few more designers are expected to be added to the NYFW roster, and several are planning to check out Live Rocket Studios this week. “Some of these young creators can make decisions based on when they can get funding and when they can get their show [on schedule] and so on,” he said.
