Todd Snyder opens Chicago store in Lincoln Park

Todd Snyder has opened its first store in Chicago.

Nicknamed "The Townhouse", the store is located in the historic Armitage-Halsted neighborhood of Lincoln Park on the ground floor of a Victorian brick townhouse built in 1877.

The store features pressed metal cornices and original ornate window detailing on the exterior while inside, the space takes inspiration from the location of Snyder's Liquor Store in New York's Tribeca neighborhood. The handcrafted wooden displays and plank and slat walls are painted olive, the brand's trademark color. The focal point of the space is a bespoke, fully stocked built-in bar, with brass-accented glass display cabinets and Carrera marble countertops. Translucent hanging globes and accent lighting hang from an exposed ceiling, and floors are chevron-striped hardwood.

The assortment includes a wide range of workwear, workwear and soft streetwear from Snyder, as well as third-party brands and collaborations from Champion sportswear, New Balance and Alden footwear, apothecary D.S. & Durga, travel and accessories Bennett Winch, plus vintage watches and jewelry from Foundwell, a New York-based company known for its rare watches. Custom and bespoke costumes are also offered.

"Opening in Chicago is like going back to basics for me," Snyder said. "Growing up in Iowa, Chicago was the 'Star of the North' of cities and I quickly developed a love for the arts, architecture and of course, the retail it had to offer. Since creating my brand in 2011, we spent a lot of time building Chicago into our fourth largest e-commerce market, so when it came time to expand, it was a very essential market to finally put down physical roots and join the ranks of other major luxury brands here.

Snyder, whose brand is owned by American Eagle Outfitters, currently operates 11 stores and plans to open more another four this year in Dallas, Washington, D.C., Miami and Atlanta.
