Local dairy farmers excited as Arla Foods distributes milk cans to improve Nigerian milk quality

In line with its commitment to advancing local dairy development in Nigeria, Arla Foods, maker of Dano Milk, has provided smallholder dairy farmers in Kaduna with training and funding under the Advancing Local Dairy Development in Nigeria program ( ALDDN).

Advancing Local Dairy Development in Nigeria (ALDDN) is a five-year program implemented in collaboration with Sahel Consulting and other private sector companies to catalyze a vibrant local dairy sector in an inclusive way that improves livelihoods , productivity, nutrition, and empowerment of smallholder dairy farmers and the communities in which they live.

Speaking at a ceremony held to distribute the first batch of milk cans to 30 farmers in the Gadan Gayan community in Kaduna State, Arla Foods Dairy Site Manager Ewarts Samuel, noted that the main objectives of the program were to increase demand. for locally sourced milk from smallholder dairy households, empowering female dairy farmers, while improving the productivity of smallholder dairy farmers.

He disclosed that the program has recently procured 900 churns of milk for distribution to smallholder dairy farmers in Nigeria, which should help preserve the milk received from farmers and ensure high quality and consistency are maintained. good hygiene during milking and transport.< /p>

"Arla is currently working in partnership with local dairy farmers by sourcing their milk through our factory in Kaduna State, where the milk is processed into yoghurt under the MILCOPAL brand. Under the ALDDN program, Arla facilitates also training programs for small dairy farmers and provides financial support for some key initiatives,” said Samuel.

In his remarks, Project Assistant, Sahel Consulting, Ahmed Mohammed said the partnership with Arla Foods aims to transform Nigeria's agricultural and nutrition landscape. “We are delighted to be part of this partnership as it would help a lot in tackling food security, malnutrition and unemployment which in turn will drive economic growth and prosperity for families, communities and Nigeria at large” , Mohammed said.
