Man City unveil 'globally relevant' stadium and Etihad campus expansion plans

February 28 - Manchester City have unveiled design concepts for expanding the Etihad Stadium's capacity to over 60,000, and creating an entertainment, sports and leisure center enhanced on an expanded Etihad campus footprint.

The club said it wanted to create a year-round "destination" with best-in-class facilities, making the wider area "globally relevant".

The club announced last December that feasibility studies for the expansion were underway. The local community is now invited to provide feedback on the concepts and designs with a deadline of March 26 for their submissions.

The main stadium development is an expanded North Stand with a single larger upper tier above the existing lower tier, increasing the stadium's capacity to over 60,000 from the current 53,000.< /p>

The club has said that several connected all-weather facilities will be fully integrated into the stadium.

Outside the stadium, a covered fan zone in City Square, with a capacity of 3,000, would provide a variety of food and drink outlets, a new club shop, a museum and a hotel.

They are "all offered in order to provide a wider range of dynamic activities on matchdays and non-matches", the club said.

The area would also provide a 'modest' workspace for use by start-ups and mid-sized organizations 'looking to co-locate and collaborate with club, city' partners Football Group and the Etihad Campus".< /p>

The club said City Football Group, its owners, has overseen more than £700m of investment in the Etihad campus and East Manchester since 2008. No figures were given for the cost of the proposed development, but the club have said that if a planning application is successful and granted, construction will take three years.

The club highlighted investment in local job creation in the past and that this "initiative would ensure that training, recruitment and employment opportunities are prioritized for local people" .

The Eithad campus already has a range of on-site facilities including City Football Academy, Connell Co-op College, Manchester Institute of Health & Performance and Co-op Live, the largest and most sustainable arena, which will open in December 2023.

The new plans would further strengthen the club and its stadium as a world center for football.
