A man sets fire to five stepchildren in Ondo

Ondo State Police arrested a 54-year-old man for allegedly setting fire to five of his stepchildren in the Fagun Crescent area of ​​Ondo town.

State Police Spokesman Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed the incident to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Akure on Sunday.

Ms Odunlami, who explained the incident happened on Saturday, said the suspect is being investigated, while the victims are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Center in Owo.< /p>

"This is a case of arson and suspected murder, and we need to investigate to find out the cause and how it happened.

“In the meantime, the matter has been transferred to our Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for proper investigation,” Ms Odunlami said.

However, a witness, who did not want his name printed, told NAN that the suspect claimed that his wife, who is the victims' mother, offended him over a small misunderstanding.

The witness further testified that the suspect poured gasoline on the room while the children slept, adding that one of them lost his life in the ensuing hell.
