Man Utd have an obvious transfer to seal and Casemiro's gesture says a lot about Sevilla draw

Manchester United blew a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Sevilla in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final. Marcel Sabitzer's brace kept the Red Devils rolling, with the Austria international scoring twice in the opening 21 minutes. However, two own goals from Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire gave the visitors hope of progress.

Manchester United entered the game against Sevilla and many wondered how they would cope without the injured Marcus Rashford.

And the Red Devils proved they could survive without their talisman with a strong home performance.

Sabitzer put United ahead in the 14th minute, with the Austria international converting after a fine pass from Bruno Fernandes.

And Sabitzer then doubled his and his team's just seven minutes later, heading home after a fine ball from Anthony Martial.

The latest own goals from Malacia and Maguire, however, give the La Liga side hope. Express Sport now takes a look at four things we learned from the contest at Old Trafford.

LEARN MORE Some Man Utd players 'think Mason Greenwood should get a chance' Casemiro's gesture says it all

Casemiro is always keen for his teammates to get their fair share of the limelight.

And, after Sabitzer's second goal, the Brazil international waved to the fans to urge them to show some appreciation for Martial.

The striker made a fantastic pass that saw his team-mate convert and double the Red Devils lead with just 21 minutes on the clock.

Martial is a divisive figure, with injuries and inconsistencies that often ruin his time at Old Trafford.

Still, when he plays like this, he's unstoppable - and Ten Hag must be relieved his No 9 is finally fully fit and shooting again.

Fernandes' suspension so unfair

As well as the two late goals and injuries to Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, the competition has had an even more negative effect for United.

And that was the yellow card given to Fernandes in the first half, with the midfielder now suspended for the second leg.

It wasn't deserved either. The Portugal international dived to block a shot and the ball hit his hand - the midfielder could do nothing to stop it.

Fernandes, rightly, was wronged.

And United will have to finish the job in Spain next week without their ubiquitous No.8 in their starting XI.

A horrible night for United

In previous years, Sevilla were the team to beat in the Europa League.

They have won the competition more times than any other club, with four of their triumphs in the past 10 years.

And they summoned some of that magic late to win a draw.

The La Liga side were terrible in the first half and looked beaten, until the jaw-dropping drama that saw them leave Manchester with the honors even.

To make matters worse for United, Varane and Martinez look set to join Marcus Rashford on the sidelines.
