Many trapped as seven-storey building collapses in Lagos

Six people were trapped after a seven-storey building collapsed in Lagos on Sunday.

The incident happened in Oba Idowu Oniru Street, next to Avi Maria Hospital, said the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, in an update.

"Upon arriving at the scene of the incident, an unfinished seven-story building under construction collapsed," he said.

"Six people are believed to be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed structure.

"The Agency's heavy equipment excavator will be required for the rescue of trapped victims. We have activated the Lagos State Response Plan. Operation underway. Updates to follow."< /p>

In Lagos, news of collapsing buildings has become commonplace.

In November, at least 44 people died in the collapse of a high-rise building.

In May, eight bodies were found after a three-storey building collapsed in Ebute-Metta.

Another building in the Ago Palace Way neighborhood of Lagos State collapsed on May 7.
